The Botswana Government said it is investing in projects that would not only supply adequate electricity in the country but also export power to the Southern Africa Power Pool in 2016/2017.
According to APA, Yarona FM reported that when officially opening the Southern Africa Power Pool meetings Permanent Secretary General at the Ministry of Mineral, Energy and Water Resources Kgomotso Abi, said plans are under way to refurbish the Morupule A power plant which when installed to full capacity would put out 132 MW of electricity.
Abi added that government is also looking into expanding generation of power through the Morupule B power station.
The radio station reported that he also noted that the government has embarked on transmission grid extensions and network reinforcement projects.
Abi said his ministry and the government would continue to support Botswana Power Corporation and create a conducive environment for investors in the power sector.
