Malawi’s finance minister to chair African capacity body

The Malawian Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Goodall Gondwe has been elected as the chairperson of the board of governors of the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF).

ACBF is the knowledge hub on capacity development interventions on the African continent.

A Ministry of Finance spokesperson, Nations Msowoya said Tuesday that Malawi showed strong commitment towards supporting the good work of ACBF in building capacity on the continent.

“Africa trusted Malawi this time around to lead the group hence their unanimous vote for the minister,” he said.

Gondwe takes over from the Gabonese Minister of Budget and Public Accounts, Christian Magnagna.

Gondwe is a renowned economist who served as a Minister of Finance from 2004 to 2009 and held various other ministerial portfolios in government.

He previously served as the Director for the Africa Division of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before returning to Malawi as a politician in 1998.
