Germany, Africa to explore growth opportunities in Nairobi Summit

The German-African Business Summit (GABS) will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 8th to 10th February 2017.

The conference which was first held in Berlin, Germany in 2015 is a platform for decision-makers in business from Germany and Africa to network and explore ways to further German-African cooperation.

In 2015, the continent’s economy grew by 3.6 per cent, the second-fastest growing economy after East Asia and higher than the global economy’s growth which was recorded at 3.1 per cent. East Africa is notably Africa’s growth engine, averaging 6.3 per cent increase in 2015.

GABS 2017 will also focus on the continent’s economic potential.

Peter Lokeris, Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Uganda; Adan Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Kenya; Felix Mutati, Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Zambia and others expected to be confirmed will discuss economic growth in Africa.

The 400 participants expected at the two-day conference will have the opportunity to explore new markets, meet potential business partners and discuss opportunities and challenges while exploring possible solutions.

It is organized by the sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI) with sponsorship support from the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK); the Federation of German Industries (BDI); the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA); the German-African Business Association (AV); and the Network of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sub-Saharan Africa (AHK).

GABS will feature B2B meetings; lectures and panel discussions on Africa’s economic growth and opportunities, regional integration, financing; and successful start-ups stories.

The Delegation of German Industry and Industry and Commerce in Kenya will be the on-site organizer.

The second German-African Business Summit will be opened by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German Foreign Minister.
