Kenya Airways subsidiary Jambojet has announced a successful aircraft leasing agreement with Moscow-based IIyushin Finance Co (IFC) that will see the low-cost domestic carrier acquire two Q400 aircraft from Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.

“The demand for high-performance turboprops, such as the Q400, continues to expand and we are pleased to enter into this new lease with Jambojet,” said Alexander Rubtsov, Director General, IFC.

The Q400 aircraft continues to experience success in Africa for its unique suitability for the continent including low operating costs and best-in-class passenger experience.

Jambojet’s Chief Executive Officer Willem Hondius said the aircraft will help the company optimize and expand its operations in line with its growth strategy owing to its performance which has exceeded the airline’s expectations.

Jean-Paul Boutibou, President, Sales, Middle-East and Africa at Bombardier Commercial Aircraft added, “The Q400 is a valuable asset for owners and operators and we are confident that IFC and Jambojet will find many more opportunities to mutually benefit from the aircraft’s outstanding economics and performance”.

Jambojet is expected to receive the first leased Q400 aircraft this May and the second one later in 2017.
