Pan-African telecommunications group Liquid Telecom has announced that it will introduce high performance Intelsat EpicNG satellite services into its network.

Intelsat 33e is a next-generation, high performance satellite that delivers improved performance, better economics and simplified access for satellite service provides such as Liquid Telecom.

Scott Mumford, Liquid Telecom’s Group Managing Executive of Satellite and VSAT said, “Breakthroughs in technology continue to position satellite as a more compelling connectivity solution for businesses across Africa.”

The partnership with Intelsat will enable Liquid Telecom meet the future bandwidth needs of its customers no matter where they are in the region.

The multi-year agreement features ground networking equipment based upon the Newtec Dialog® VSAT platform.

“Our goal is to support customer growth in Africa and to work together to enhance the infrastructure that connects broadband and enterprise customers in Africa,” Brian Jakins, Intelsat’s Regional Vice President, Africa sales said of the partnership that will expand Intelsat’s footprint in the region.

Intelsat has the largest satellite presence in the continent. Intelsat 35e and Intelsat 37e will soon join Intelsat 33e in the Intelsat EpicNG program, expanding high-throughput to benefit the entire continent.

Liquid Telecom will leverage on Intelsat’s high-throughput satellite (HTS) solutions to deliver more bandwidth with greater efficiency to meet the growing needs of businesses across Africa.

Intelsat EpicNG services will expand Liquid Telecom’s coverage and network capabilities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe where the demand for VSAT technology to deliver connectivity to underserved remote or rural areas has grown.

With engineering work currently underway, Liquid Telecom is expected to begin using the Intelsat EpicNG platform at the end of July 2017.
