Britain’s Hela Clothing Opens $100m Manufacturing Facility in Kenya

British-owned apparel manufacturing company Hela Clothing has opened a manufacturing facility in Kenya in a move to penetrate the East African region.

Hela makes clothing and accessories for the world’s top retailers. Its product portfolio includes Casual, Intimate, Kids, Back to School and Athleisure wear supported by laboratory capabilities accredited with the highest customer standards and a service logistics management center.

It manufactures over 100 million of units of apparel annually and employs more than 8, 000 people.

The Sri Lanka-based group has collaborated with the Industrial Promotion Services (IPS- Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development) to open the Hela Intimates Kenya (Alltex EPZ Limited) at the Export Processing Zone in Athi River.

Hela Intimates Kenya is a $100 million business that will manufacture casual and intimate wear and employ more than 5, 000 Kenyans.

It will be officially opened by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of Industry, Trade and Investment Adan Mohamed on Friday 24 March 2017.

The facility will be headed by Wasantha Perera as the Chief Executive Officer.
