Thika-based consumer goods manufacturer Bidco Africa has opened a Sh2 billion ($19 million) detergent plant in its Thika factory with an eye on capturing the entire East African market.
“This is a state-of-the-art facility, completely computer controlled. We have remarkable options in the kind of products we can create and this is good for the consumer,” said Bidco Africa chief executive Thiagarajan Ramamurthy.
Bidco confirmed that new plant, which is expected to produce 3,000 tonnes of detergents per month initially, will experience regular upgrades as it seeks to meet the growing demand for powdered detergent across East Africa.
The new facility is part of a mammoth Sh200 billion plan to grow Bidco’s product line and propel the manufacturer into a billion-dollar revenue firm.
