Nominations for this year’s Africa Food Prize are open and will close on Monday 5 June 2017.
Launched in 2016, the Africa Food Prize aims at empowering change-makers in the agricultural sector to end hunger and poverty in the continent.
It awards players contributing to the growth of Agriculture in Africa with a $100, 000 prize package from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).
The President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Dr. Kanayo F. Nwanze was the inaugural winner of the prize , honoured for both his outstanding individual leadership and for his passionate advocacy in putting Africa’s smallholder farmers at the centre of the global agricultural agenda as the head of IFAD.
The nomination process for the Africa Food Prize begins with nominations to the Africa Food Prize Secretariat.
The Secretariat then assists the African Food Prize Committee to screen and select candidates and the Africa Food Prize Committee chooses the winner by unanimous vote.
Any individual or identifiable group of individuals, established institutions, associations, organizations or government bodies with a formal and recognized judicial and organizational structure contributing to the overall objectives of the Prize are eligible.
Nominees are picked irrespective of nationality, profession or location, provided their work and its outcomes have had a clear impact in Africa.

The winner for the 2017 Africa Food Prize will be awarded at the Africa Food Prize gala dinner on 6 September 2017 during the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) which will be held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast between 4 and 8 September 2017.
