Ethiopian Airlines won the 2018 Best Airline in Africa Award, which was given in recognition of its exceptional financial performance, for the 7th year in a row from African Airlines Association (AFRAA) at the association’s 50th high profile Annual General Assembly (AGA) held in Rabat, Morocco.
Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines said “we are thrilled to win this prestigious award. In the last seven years we have been coming to AFRAA AGA and receiving this continental high-profile award every single year”.
He added that “the award attests to the soundness of Ethiopian’s fast, profitable and sustainable growth plan, Vision 2025 and the associated business model. In its seventy plus years of operation, Ethiopian, the fastest growing airline in Africa, has become one of the continent’s leading carriers”.
Ethiopian airlines controls majority of the passenger and cargo network. The airline operates the youngest and most modern fleet to more than 116 international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents.
The airline is the first in Africa to own and operate fleets such as the Airbus A350, Boeing 787-8, Boeing 787-9, Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 777-200LR, all considered to be ultra-modern and environmentally friendly, with an average age of five years.
