Facebook-led initiative Internet.org is launching Express Wi-Fi in Kenya, which it reveals is already commercially available in more than 100 hotspots in the capital Nairobi.
The initiative overcomes internet accessibility, affordability and awareness challenges by enabling access and benefits of connectivity to underserved locations across the globe; working with carriers, internet service providers and local entrepreneurs towards this goal.
In Kenya, the program supports the country’s broader commitment to achieve universal internet access.
Local entrepreneurs in Kenya now have the opportunity to provide better service to those already connected and to connect new ones at affordable rates.
Facebook is working together with Surf to bring Express Wi-Fi to Kenya. It will also be rolled out in Mombasa and Kisumu.
Kenya becomes the second country after India where Express Wi-Fi is live.
