Kenyan Firms in Shortlist For Visa Sh5 Million

Four Kenyan tech start-ups are finalists for Sh5 million funding from fintech firm Visa.

M-Changa, Mookh, WayaWaya and LipaPlus are among 12 finalists from 238 entries from Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.

“I would like to congratulate the finalists and wish them luck as they enter the final stretch,” said Geraldine Mitchley, senior Visa director for Digital Solutions for Sub-Sahara Africa in a statement.

M-Changa, a fundraising management platform; Mookh Africa, a solution that makes it easier for people in Africa to buy and sell on mainstream social media platforms and WayaWaya, which enables access to banking are competing in the second challenge. LipaPlus, a Kenyan mobile POS and wallet that enables cashless payments is competing in the third challenge.

One winner per challenge will be selected, with each receiving Sh2.5 million. The overall winner will receive an additional Sh2.5 million. Announcement is next week in Johannesburg.
