‎Angola, Russia assess Geological-Mining cooperation

The Secretary of State for Geology and Mines, Miguel Bondo, has  announced in Luanda that Angola plans to substantially increase its diamond production in the coming years, as a result of the existing cooperation with Russia in the geological-mining domain,
The Angolan official said so after meeting with deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation and the plenipotentiary representative of the Federal District of the Far East, Yuri Trutnev, that addressed issues of strengthening the geological- mining cooperation, the legal instruments signed in 2009, whose instruments lead to agreements and concrete medium-term programs that are being addressed.
There are other programs that are being implemented under the National Plan of Geology and Mines (Planageo).
He recalled that the cooperation between Angola and Russia goes back to the time of national liberation and transcends many sectors in the sphere of geology and mining, “but already extends to other areas such as telecommunications, transport, agriculture, energy, banking, among others.
In the diamond sector, Russia cooperates with Angola through Al Rosa, which operates in several diamond mines located in the provinces of Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul.
The diamond production in the country is estimated at nine million carats / year, but may increase to 13.8 million carats / year, in the period 2017-2022, based on the MPLA governance program recently presented to the society.‎
