Symbol Mining, an Australian company is developing an open pit mine for exploration of Lead-Zinc deposits in Bauchi and Nasarawa, states situated in the northern part of Nigeria.
Abubakar Bwari, Nigeria’s Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, who disclosed the development at Nigeria-Canada Investment Summit in Abuja, said various opportunities exist in both the down and upstream sectors, adding that these are now ready for exploitation.
He said Nigeria is still a greenfield with variety of mineral types and titles, and some of the highest grades anywhere in the world.
Bwari assured Canadian partners at the event that it is now much easier to do mining business in Nigeria, because of better policing of the environment to ensure safety and compliance.
He said “in addressing lack of geological data, we are able to facilitate payment and release of results of aeromagnetic survey of Nigeria, which was done 10 years earlier but not made public”.
