Following the drilling of the Yakaar-1 exploration well to a total depth of 4, 700 meters in 2, 550 metres of water in the Cayar Offshore Profond block in Senegal, BP has announced a major gas find.
“This discovery marks an important further step in building BP’s new business in Mauritania and Senegal,” said Bernard Looney, BP Upstream Chief Executive Officer.
BP believes that offshore Senegal and Mauritania is a world-class hydrocarbon basin and plans to drill three additional exploration wells this year.
The company and joint venture partner Kosmos Energy’s earlier exploration success led to the Tortue discovery which will be tested in mid-2017.
This new discovery creates the foundation for a further LNG hub in the basin
