The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges has announced a new thermal power plant, with a capacity of 20 megawatts, will be installed this year in the city of Cuito, Bié province .
Speaking at the presentation session of the electricity sector memorandum to the Bié province government, he assured that the construction of the new thermal power plant will allow to reducing dependence on the supply of energy from the province of Huambo.
According to the minister, the government will also recover the three generator sets of the Caluapanda thermal power plant, with a capacity of 12 megawatts
Currently only one of the four groups works and provides only 2.5 megawatts. Regarding the distribution network, the minister assured the installation of new Transformation Posts, with capacity 630 KVA for the neighborhoods, Cantíflas, Njele, Militar, Popular and others.
The governor of Bié, Álvaro de Boavida Neto, participated in the session.
