South Africa retailer, Shoprite, last week launched its second store at Garden City Mall in Nairobi and confirmed plans to rapidly expand its footprint in the East African nation with two more outlet opening by year end.
Andrew Mweemba, Shoprite’s Kenya General Manager, told Business Daily Africa that the planned branches will be at Nairobi’s Karen Waterfront Mall and Mombasa’s Nyali City later this year.
Mr Mweemba said partnership agreements with 28 fresh produce suppliers from across the country had been signed.
“We guarantee our suppliers prompt payments as this is key to maintaining a fresh supply of farm produce and other goods to our customers,” he said to Business Daily Africa.
Shoprite’s store at the famous Westgate Mall is the retailer’s first in Kenya and now employs over 140 workers. The new Garden City Mall branch will employ 120 people.
