Pan-African telecommunications group Smile Telecoms Holdings has appointed Ahmad Farroukh to its Board as Executive Director of Operations.
“The Africa telecoms market is as dynamic as it is challenging and Ahmad Farrouk is perfectly suited to lead Smile’s next existing phase of growth,” said Irene Chamley, CEO, Smile Group.
The company which started as a spectrum start-up is now the most reliable data gigabyte factory in sub-Saharan Africa with operations in Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Smile has developed in-house technology applications and a billing platform that provides a competitive and cost advantage.
Farroukh takes to Smile experience in driving strategy and profitability to international standards from his previous management positions at Investcom Holdings and the MTN Group where he served as CEO of MTN Nigeria, MTN South Africa and MTN Group Chief Operating Executive responsible for 19 countries.
Prior to joining Smile, he was CEO of Saudi Arabia’s second largest telecommunications operator, Mobily.
Commenting on his appointment, Farroukh said, “Africa is experiencing explosive data growth, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead the operations of the continent’s best 4G LTE network at this exciting time.”
He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the Lebanese American University and is a Certified Public Accountant in New York, USA.
Farroukh will be based in Nigeria for the most part.
