In its ongoing service expansion, Zantel Tanzania has rolled out 4G data connectivity in Pemba Island, part of the Zanzibar archipelago where it enjoys 80 per cent of the market share.
The mobile network operator has also partnered with the People’s Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) to launch mobile Islamic banking.
According to the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), mobile money subscribers transacted Tsh988.9 billion in the second half of 2016, a testament that telecom companies are becoming an increasingly vital payment avenue.
Zantel’s Chief Executive Benoit Janin said, “Mobile Islamic banking financial service is more than just a product”.
The introduction of the Sharia compliant mobile service is timely and relevant to the Muslim community providing a simple, efficient and safe dimension in line with their lifestyle.
Janin added that Zantel will continue expanding its 4G network and introducing more innovative services across Tanzania.
