Ethiopia’s Main Department for Immigration and National Affairs has in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines launched online entry visa application and issuance services for international visitors to Ethiopia.
The e-visa is processed and issued on a single web page where applicants apply, pay and secure their entry visa. Once the application is approved, applicants receive an email authorizing their entry to Ethiopia where their passport is stamped with the visa upon arrival.
“This project is part of a new national initiative to transform the tourism sector in the country. The full commencement of the Online Visa application and issuance system will promote tourism, trade and investment to the country,” said Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines Tewolde GebreMariam.
The service aims to leverage on the country’s historical sites, natural beauty, colourful and diverse cultural activities and wild animals to attract international tourists.
In addition to the simplicity and convenience of online visa processing, travellers to Ethiopia will also be saved time, energy and cost.
Expressing appreciation for working with carrier, Gebreyohannes Teklu, Director Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs said e-visa facilities have effectively been implemented at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.
He added, “Now international visitors to Ethiopia, from countries provisioned for visa upon arrival, will make use of this service. Moreover, we have set up separate counters to process the visas.”
Currently, only tourist e-visas to Ethiopia are being issued.
With direct flights to and from 95 destinations globally, Ethiopian Airlines will continue to make travel to Ethiopia dependable and easy complemented by the online entry visa processing service which was effected 12 June 2017.
