Hospitality chain, PrideInn Group of Hotels is investing heavily in a facility upgrade and training of staff in preparation for a mega world tourism and travel conference that will be hosted in the Kenyan city of Mombasa from 17th to 21st October 2018.

Group Managing Director, Mr Hasnain Noorani has said preparations are at advanced stages to host the 79th edition of SKAL International World Congress in Kenyan soil for the first time.

SKAL is an organisation for travel and tourism professionals around the world with a membership of over 16,000 members. This will be the first time Kenya shall be hosting this prestigious International event.

“We understand the importance of this Congress and are working towards making it a success. We are spending a considerable amount and resources on training staff, renovations, facility upgrade and management to boost our capacity of handling the event and other coming such events,” said Mr Noorani.

The long-awaited Congress, to be held at the prestigious PrideInn Paradise Beach and Resort and Conventional Centre, has already attracted more than 800 tourism and hospitality agents across the world.

PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort & Convention Centre has the largest Beach Conferencing Facility in the East & Southern Africa with a sitting capacity of 2,500 guests. A reason why it was chosen to host the legendary world congress.

The Congress provides a unique opportunity for its members to meet other members from around the globe in Kenya, as well as tour and experience special features and unique tourism products offered by the Kenyan hospitality industry.

In 2014 the SKAL International world congress had voted and scheduled to have the congress sit in Mombasa in 2015 but was cancelled following security alerts and travel advisories against Kenya due to a series of terror attacks that rocked the country. The Congress, in which over 1000 International delegates are expected, will open up Kenya to the world.

“We now enjoy a favourable environment bolstered by increased investor and tourists confidence to make the event a success. The SKAL Congress will provide an opportunity to the tourism industry players in Kenya to showcase their products and rightful image of Kenya as a destination to the worldwide participants and the world at large,” said Hasnain.

“It will also provide an opportunity to the Mombasa County government and investors to promote Mombasa City as a MICE hub in the world. Our aim is to position Kenya as an important player in  MICE tourism worldwide “ he added.

The event is expected to provide an exceptional chance for Kenya to showcase her quality tourism and hospitality experience.

Over the past few years, Kenya has experienced a thriving meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism sector by hosting prestigious global events such as the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), The United Nations Conference on African Development (TICAD), The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Global Partnership on Economic Development Conference (GPEDC) in the last two years among others.

These Meetings, Conferences and exhibitions have positioned Kenya as an important player in the MICE industry.
