Airtel, a leading telecommunications mobile provider in Kenya has sponsored the Indo-Africa ICT Expo 2015 being held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in Nairobi from Monday September 28th to 29th.
Indo-Africa ICT Expo 2015 is collaboration between the Kenya Ministry of ICT, ICT Authority, Telecom Equipment & Services Export Promotion Council of India, High Commission of India and NASSCOM India ICT industry body.
It is a platform to build synergy among India & African countries to showcase innovative & diversified products & services and to bring together thought-leaders across the entire ICT value chain to discuss solutions to regulatory and business.
It creates a platform for Indian and African countries to showcase ICT innovations as well as bring together thought leaders to discuss solutions that will help transform the ICT sector in Kenya.
Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi yesterday participated as a speaker at the Expo where he addressed the delegates on the opportunities in the Telecom Sector in Kenya focusing on High Speed Broadband, Telecom Regulatory & Policy & Licensing.
Adil highlighted the importance of broadband in driving financial inclusion through mobile money and mobile banking in Kenya and Africa, improving the quality of life and facilitating access to economic opportunities and social welfare that were previously inaccessible to the underserved sectors of the population.
Adil pointed out the regulator’s role in ensuring that there is fair distribution and allocation of Digital Dividend spectrum including putting up caps where appropriate, reduction of taxes and import duties on telecommunication ICT equipment and services as well as encouraging network and facility sharing among operators.
Adil said that this will enhance competition in the sector, attract more investors and ensure that customers have access to affordable and quality services as well as the right of choice. It will also enable the government to fulfill the national broadband targets.

The two day event will comprise of informative and motivating conference sessions as well as an exhibition attended by local, regional and international ICT leading companies, organizations and government bodies.
The event was graced by Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, the outgoing High Commissioner of India Mr. Yogeshwar VARMA, Chief Executive Officer ICT Authority Victor Kyalo as well as ICT ministers and top sector leaders from India and Africa.
The exhibition will offer an ideal platform for businesses to showcase the latest ICT developments and technologies to market and industry leaders. Airtel’s latest ICT solutions, products and services will be on display and open for dealers, distributors and wholesalers who will be attending the event.
