KenGen Appoints First Female Executive in its History

Rebecca Miano has been appointed as the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).

KenGen is the leading electric power generation company in Kenya. It owns 31 power generating plants with a combined installed capacity of 1, 337 megawatts from diverse generation modes encompassing hydro, thermal, geothermal and wind technologies.

Prior to her appointment, Miano was KenGen’s Company Secretary and Legal Affairs Director for the last nine years.

She becomes the first female executive of the company since inception in 1954. Miano takes over from Eng. Albert Mugo who has retired.

She brings a wealth of energy sector expertise to the position having worked for the Kenya Power & Lighting Company when KenGen was under its management.

Miano holds professional qualifications in law and experience in practice from institutions and firms in both Kenya and Australia.

The company said her appointment is in an acting capacity to ensure a smooth transition as the process awaits the conclusion.

Miano’s appointment went into effect on Saturday 26th August 2017.
